Laundry stain cheat sheet
Spills happen. These steps help you treat common stains before they set—whether you own your machines or rent a washer and dryer from us. Always check the care label first.
Stain removal steps
1.Sweat / deodorant
Pretreat with a little dish soap or liquid detergent, then wash in cold water. For stubborn yellowing, use a baking soda paste before washing.
2.Coffee
Blot the spot, then rinse with cold water. Pretreat with liquid detergent or a little white vinegar before washing.
3.Red wine
Blot immediately. Cover with salt or baking soda to absorb, rinse with cold water, then wash as usual.
4.Grass
Rub in liquid detergent or stain remover, let sit about 10 minutes, then wash in cold water.
5.Grease
Sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch to absorb oil, brush off, then treat with dish soap before washing.
6.Blood
Rinse with cold water only—never hot. Pretreat with hydrogen peroxide or detergent, then wash.
7.Ink
Dab with rubbing alcohol on a cloth, blot gently, then rinse and wash.
8.Makeup
Remove excess product, pretreat with dish soap or stain remover, then wash.
9.Tomato sauce
Scrape off excess, rinse from the back of the fabric with cold water, pretreat with detergent, then wash.
10.Mud
Let it dry first, brush off as much as possible, then pretreat and wash.
Laundry pro tip
Never put stained clothing in the dryer until the stain is completely gone. Heat can set the stain for good.
Homemade boost
Mix 1 cup water + ½ cup hydrogen peroxide + ½ cup baking soda. Great for many washable whites and tough stains. Spot test first.
